Our Approach

Life Transitions & Growth

The crisis has passed, yet something fundamental has shifted. SOMA offers forward-facing, integrative care designed to translate processed trauma into self-authored purpose, boundaries, and authentic relational connection. Post-Traumatic Growth (Tedeschi & Calhoun) is the framework for what comes next.

This content is educational and informational. It is not psychotherapy, medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a licensed professional. Reading this page does not create a therapist-client relationship with SOMA. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Life Transitions

I have already done trauma therapy. What comes next?

SOMA offers forward-facing, integrative work for exactly this stage. When the crisis has passed but the old ways of living no longer fit, you need a framework for what comes next, not more processing of what came before. This work is for people who have done significant therapeutic work and are ready to move from processing the past to intentionally building the future. We help you translate what you have already worked through into chosen values, boundaries, and a life you author rather than one you inherited from survival.

What is post-traumatic growth?

Post-Traumatic Growth is the documented phenomenon of positive psychological change that can emerge from the struggle with highly challenging circumstances. At SOMA it is not toxic positivity and not the claim that something good came from your pain. It is the clinical recognition that the human system, once stabilized and resourced, has an inherent drive toward meaning-making and self-authorship. The work helps you translate processed trauma into purpose, boundaries, and authentic connection. It begins only after your nervous system is steady enough to build from, not before.

Can therapy really help me through a major life transition?

Yes. Transitions, whether chosen or imposed, open an identity gap that can feel disorienting or even threatening. Divorce, a career change, loss, relocation, or a shift in who you are can all create that gap. Left unattended, the gap tends to fill with old survival patterns by default. SOMA's work is about filling it with intentional, values-aligned construction instead. We use meaning-making, values clarification, and self-authorship work so you build the next chapter deliberately rather than react your way into it.

How is this different from just staying positive?

This is not toxic positivity. SOMA does not ask you to reframe pain as a gift or feel good about what happened. Post-traumatic growth is a clinical process, not a slogan. It begins only after the nervous system is stabilized and resourced, and it involves honest meaning-making and narrative reconstruction. The point is not to paper over what you lived through. It is to author a life that genuinely reflects who you have become through it, on your own terms rather than anyone else's.

How do I keep my next chapter from repeating old patterns?

That question is central to this work. Life transitions can quietly pull you back into inherited relational and survival patterns, especially under stress. Through relational pattern redesign, values clarification, and intentional life architecture, SOMA helps you make sure the patterns you carry forward are chosen rather than defaulted to. The aim is self-authorship: a next chapter built on purpose instead of one that reproduces the structures you already outgrew. You get to decide what comes with you and what stays behind.
